Snare of the devil

IMG_9376.JPGThe Bible uses the phrase the “snare of the devil” a couple times.  This gives me a visual of a mouse caught in a trap.  How can a mouse get out except that someone lift the bar off of it’s tail?  Well, God has power to lift the so called bar off of our tails if we get caught in a trap.  His word has the very instructions how we can save ourselves out of the traps the devil has laid for us.

There hath not temptation taken you but such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.  1 Corinthians 10:13.

I continue to experience God’s help in this area of my life and continue to pray for the entire body of Christ that we have the discernment to notice when temptations are put in  our way..

When we give into temptation, we give the devil more of a foothold in our lives to destroy our testimony, our work and our ministry.

Thus, As a saved believer in Christ, we need to judge ourselves and check to see if we are being a good minister of God’s grace. I am so thankful for not only the word of God but for pastors, teachers, evangelists and friends who teach me, try me and challenge me to be more and more faithful to God’s word. I pray God continue to show us where our ears are dull of hearing his instruction:

I can never think “I have arrived” as this is when the devil can get me puffed up and tempt me to think more highly of myself than I ought. Romans 12:3. For I say,  through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according A’s God hath dealt to every man (the measure of faith).  This should be our attitude.  Also,  1 Corinthians 11:31 for if we judge ourselves, we should not be judged.  And finally, Philippians 2:3.  Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in loneliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

When we let the word of God be the final authority in our practice of faith in our lives, we can know that the love of God is guiding us… not our love, but His love. To be led by the Spirit is to let the love of God lead us. He demonstrates his love to us in his word. Thus, we should let the word of Christ dwell in us so that we can be filled with the Spirit. Colossians 3:16. God has reconciled the world to himself on the cross (2 Corinthians 5:18) and is waiting for all who will believe to put their trust in his death for their sins.. (1 Timothy 1:16, 2 Peter 3:9). to trust in the Son of God, Jesus Christ who humbled himself to the death on the cross (Phil. 2:8) so that we might have eternal life with him. God is offering us his righteouness if we will only put our trust in Him.

2 Corinthians 5:14  For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we this judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead. You see, it is His love that constrains or guides/pulls us forward when we recognize that we were ALL dead before he reconciled the world to himself.  And now, because we believed and trusted in his death, (not because of how good we are), we are saved eternally from hell.  Now, that is the love of God to do such a thing.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

There are many commands given to us as the body of Christ. Romans to Philemon has some pretty strong warnings and strong advice.. those warnings are guard rails to keep us safe from the enemy’s territory. When we try to fight the enemy in the enemy’s territory, we are fighting a losing battle. But when we engage according to the rules God has established for us, we can know it is God fighting and not us.

Let us not allow ourselves to get caught in the snare of the devil. 1 Timothy3:7, 2 Timothy 2:26 and let us be ready to give an answer to anyone that asks us the reason of our hope. 2 Peter 3:15

May we heed Paul’s words and let Christ be formed on us. May our lives reflect the life of Him who lives in us!!  Have we studied (and not just read) God’s commands and warnings to us?

Galatians 4:19 my little children of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.

What a sad thing for Paul to see Christians not growing in truth.. words that motivate me to continue to study, pray and be transformed in my mind. Romans 12:2

Here we see Paul uses the term “snare of the devil” followed be a list of things to “flee”.. the whole chapter plus the following chapter really paint a picture of what we are called to avoid and how we are called to follow righteousness.

2 Timothy 2:21

If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. 22Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. 24And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

The devil did not go to sleep when you got saved.  He is subtle and will use “good things” to tempt us and mislead us.  Let’s not be ignorant of his devices.

And finally, , Let’s spur one another on!! The world is not getting any better!! Let’s keep growing in God and become fully furnished!!! Souls need to be saved and so many people do not KNOW God.. let’s get busy!!! 🙏🏽💗
