What is it that we spend most of our time thinking about? Do we spend most of our day fantasizing about a future we desire so much that we fail to work out our salvation? Were we saved so that we could live out our desires? The bible says that God created the earth for his pleasure first, not so that we can live any way we want to. Revelation 4:11. Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
The word of God teaches us like a counselor and gives us insight and the imagination/thoughts of God. Proverbs 2:6 “For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” Why would we be so small to rely on our own imagination than to look into the very mind of God? 1 Corinthians 2:18 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. (we have it written in the KJB). His mind is so much greater than ours and he has thought up a future for those that are his that is beyond anything we can ever think this world has to offer. But sadly, we can choose not to let his mind in us. That is why God tells us to “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with god: But made himself of no reputation; and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” philippians 2:5 -8
Ephesians 3:21 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen
Thus, it behooves us to take all our thoughts and compare them with his word and let his word teach us about good and evil, about his plans for us, about what pleases him, and about the great LOVE he has for us to fill our hearts with unspeakable joy.
2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every hight thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
Things that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God are things that hinder God’s work in our hearts and lives. He can only work in us as much as we draw in his word and meditate on it. The Thessalonians believed the word of God and that is what worked in them so that they could be witnesses to the world.
For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which worketh effectually in you that believe. 2 Thessalonians
So what is it they believed? They believed what God’s word says and as they believed it, it changed them and their behavior followed!
1 Thessalonians 1:8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we not not to speak any thing.
What an accomplishment they made on God’s behalf!
We can become side tracked when we face problems. Our own emotions can betray us and lead us into isolation and rebellion against God. Our hurts can cause us to be angry at our loved ones and even at God. Who do we turn to when we don’t feel God’s love or when we don’t hear his voice in relation to our pain? We can try to “make things better” and make them worse in our lives if we fail to heed God’s instruction for our lives. The Bible says we reap what we sow and this principle is still true today.
Who will counsel us better than any counselor or psychologist? The word of God tells us this:
Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors Psalm 119:24
(The testimonies here are speaking about Jesus Christ)
Here is the scripture that says that the book is all about Jesus Christ.. So if we want to KNOW Him.. He who laid down his very life for us… wouldn’t we want to read it?Hebrews 10:7 Then said I (this is Jesus Christ), Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will O God.
Jesus also has the title of Counselor.
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
I encourage you to get in the book that will teach you, counsel you, and redeem your soul if you read it and believe it. It is more profitable than gold or silver.. or anything this world can offer. (Believe the gospel (good news) that Christ died for all your sins and was raised for your justification (he died according to the scriptures , was buried and was raised the third day according to the scriptures) 1 Cor. 15:1-4. Trust in him alone and you will be saved Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith, and not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.
The gift of God is not only salvation, but it is that we are justified by the faith of Christ!
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Galatians 2:16
As one who is in search of treasure, when we seek God in his word, we will find great spoil!
I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil. Psalm 119:162
